Trump Supports Texas Governor Abbott in Border Security Feud

In a series of posts on Truth Social, former President Donald Trump threw his support behind Texas Governor Greg Abbott amid an escalating feud with the Biden administration over border security. Trump accused President Biden of trying to hinder Abbott’s efforts to address the border crisis and pledged to work closely with the state if he is re-inaugurated in January 2025.

Trump urged states to send their National Guard troops to the border, endorsing Abbott’s initiative to enhance border security. He criticized Biden for allegedly restraining the Texas governor, allowing what he referred to as an “invasion” to persist without adequate opposition.

Former President Trump stated on Truth Social, “When I am President, on Day One, instead of fighting Texas, I will work hand in hand with Governor Abbott and other Border States to Stop the Invasion, Seal the Border, and Rapidly Begin the Largest Domestic Deportation Operation in History.”

The longstanding feud between Texas and the Biden administration reached new heights as Texas seized the Shelby Park area of Eagle Pass, blocking Border Patrol access. This move triggered protests and legal threats from the administration. The Supreme Court recently ruled in favor of the administration, allowing Border Patrol agents to continue cutting the border wire set up by Texas.

The conflict, which dates back to 2021 and the surge in the migrant crisis, has seen legal battles over anti-illegal immigration laws and Texas’ deployment of resources to the border through Operation Lone Star. The administration contends that Texas is interfering with federal immigration enforcement responsibilities.

A recent White House statement accused Governor Abbott of politicizing the border and criticized his actions, including the seizure of Eagle Pass and the installation of razor wire. The administration asserted that Abbott is not focused on finding solutions to the immigration challenges but is instead promoting extreme and unconstitutional laws.

In response to the criticism, Abbott cited a “right to self-defense” and declared an “invasion,” invoking his authority, which he claims supersedes federal statutes. Trump echoed his support, urging all willing states to deploy their National Guard to Texas to prevent the entry of illegal immigrants.

While the Biden administration emphasizes the need for comprehensive immigration reform through bipartisan agreement in Congress, Abbott asserts the state’s right to take action. The clash highlights the ongoing debate over the division of responsibilities between federal and state authorities in addressing immigration challenges.
