Quentin Tarantino and Brad Pitt Reunite for The Movie Critic

In what is set to be Quentin Tarantino’s cinematic farewell, reports from Deadline and Variety reveal that the iconic director is joining forces once again with Brad Pitt for his upcoming film, “The Movie Critic.” This collaboration marks the third time Pitt will be starring in a Tarantino-directed project, following their work together in “Inglourious Basterds” (2009) and “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood” (2019).

Tarantino’s final film, “The Movie Critic,” is set against the backdrop of California in 1977. The intriguing plot revolves around a real but relatively unknown film critic, known for his reviews in a less conventional publication, a “porno rag.” In a 2023 interview with Deadline, Tarantino shared that the film’s protagonist would be a “new leading man” and approximately 35 years old.

Brad Pitt’s Role and Tarantino’s Directorial Retirement Plans

While it’s yet unclear whether Pitt, 60, will portray the titular movie critic, his involvement in the project adds excitement to the anticipation. Pitt’s previous collaboration with Tarantino earned him an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor in “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood,” where he played the role of Cliff Booth, a stuntman in 1969 Hollywood.

As Tarantino, 60, has consistently maintained, “The Movie Critic” is slated to be his final directorial endeavor, bringing an end to his illustrious career after ten films. The director has expressed his intention to maintain a high standard in his filmography and has hinted at a potential shift towards television and book writing post-retirement. Having already published a novelization of “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood” in 2021 and a book on film criticism titled “Cinema Speculation” in 2022, Tarantino’s creative journey is poised to continue in new avenues.

As of now, “The Movie Critic” awaits a confirmed release date and distribution details, leaving fans eager for more updates on this highly anticipated cinematic swan song.
