Mario Paint Joins Switch Online SNES Collection

Nintendo has brought back one of its most unique and creative games, Mario Paint, by adding it to the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES) collection on Nintendo Switch Online. Originally launched in 1992, Mario Paint was a fun and interactive way for players to draw, animate, and create music using a special SNES mouse. Now, more than 30 years later, it’s available once again for modern players through the SNES app on both the Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 consoles.

This re-release enables players to enjoy Mario Paint with updated controls. If you have a Nintendo Switch 2, the Joy-Con 2 controllers include built-in mouse functionality, making it easy to use all the drawing tools in the game. For Nintendo Switch users, a compatible USB mouse can be used as an alternative. This update is a great way for both longtime fans and new players to explore their creativity with fun drawing tools, animation options, and even music creation. One of the most memorable features, the Gnat Attack mini-game, is also included and still just as entertaining.

Alongside the game’s return, Nintendo also released the original Mario Paint soundtrack on its Nintendo Music mobile app. The app, which offers classic and modern music from Nintendo’s games, now includes 19 tracks from Mario Paint. These songs bring back a sense of nostalgia for older fans and introduce new players to the charming sounds of the game. Anyone with access to the Nintendo Music app can now listen to or download these tracks and relive the magic of Mario’s artistic adventure.

The re-release of Mario Paint is part of Nintendo’s ongoing effort to expand its SNES game library and give fans more ways to enjoy classic titles. This update is especially exciting for gamers who grew up in the ’90s and remember the original SNES version. It also offers a great creative outlet for younger players who enjoy drawing, designing, and making music.

By reviving Mario Paint, Nintendo is not only bringing back a beloved game but also honoring the playful and artistic spirit that has always been part of its legacy. Whether you’re playing for the first time or rediscovering it after decades, Mario Paint is once again ready to inspire imagination now on the latest generation of Nintendo consoles.
