Elana Meyers Taylor monobob gold became one of the defining results of the Milano Cortina Winter Games, not only for the winning time of 3:57.93 but for what it says about elite longevity in women’s bobsled. In her fifth Olympic appearance, Meyers Taylor secured her first Olympic title and added a sixth Winter Games medal to her career record.
The podium also featured Laura Nolte in silver and Kaillie Armbruster Humphries in bronze, placing two U.S. medalists in their 40s in the same Olympic women’s monobob final. That outcome marks a notable shift in the competitive timeline of the sport, where sustained performance across multiple Olympic cycles is now being measured against both speed and career durability.
At 41, Meyers Taylor was reported as the oldest U.S. female Winter Olympic champion, while 40-year-old Humphries also reached the podium in her fifth Games. Meyers Taylor said, “I thought it was impossible,” and later added, “To have my name up there with Bonnie Blair, it doesn’t even make sense to me.”
The result stands as both a gold-medal performance and a milestone for long-career excellence in Olympic bobsled.
