Neve Campbell returns as Sidney Prescott in Scream 7, the seventh installment in the horror franchise, released theatrically on February 27, 2026, through Paramount Pictures and Spyglass Media Group. The 114-minute film marks Campbell’s first appearance in the series since Scream 5, following her widely publicized exit from Scream VI in 2022 over a salary dispute.
Campbell stated at the time that the compensation offer did not reflect her contributions to the franchise. She later acknowledged the decision carried real professional risk, including the possibility of permanent separation from the series. Studios announced her return in March 2024, making her case one of the more documented instances of a legacy actor’s public pay stance directly influencing a franchise’s course correction.
Despite the narrative significance of her reintegration, Scream 7 opened to the lowest critical reception in franchise history, earning a 42% score on Rotten Tomatoes. Director Kevin Williamson positioned the film’s mid-credit scene – featuring Mindy delivering a live broadcast on the Ghostface incident, with Chad as her cameraman – as character closure rather than franchise setup. The post-credit sequence was established earlier in the film when Gale grants the pair permission to go on air.
Williamson has acknowledged early discussions about a potential Scream 8, with Campbell herself contributing ideas during those sessions. No future installment has been confirmed.
