He shared the update on March 2, 2026, using a text overlay on a photo posted to both Instagram and X and said the timing was driven by professional considerations.
Campbell said appearances, conventions and work in general will take a back seat while he undergoes treatment. He added that several summer conventions will be canceled because treatment needs conflict with existing obligations. He did not disclose the cancer type.
In his message, he stressed he was not seeking sympathy or advice. He said he wanted to get ahead of the story to reduce the risk of false information circulating.
Planned timeline he outlined:
- Focus on getting as well as possible over the summer
- Aim to tour with his new film Ernie & Emma in the fall
Campbell also reassured fans he has strong support and expects to be around a while. He is listed as an executive producer on Evil Dead Burn, which is scheduled for release on July 24, 2026.
